When you’ve been arrested, the decisions you make could have a significant effect on your future. From the start, you should hire an accomplished defense lawyer to safeguard your rights and push back against unsupported allegations. My firm, Robert S. McCormick, Attorney at Law, offers assertive, effective legal counsel to Colorado clients facing all types of charges. From my offices in Grand Junction and Durango, I have been defending clients with skill and determination for more than three decades.
Since 1983, I have represented Colorado clients in a wide range of legal matters, including felony and misdemeanor cases involving accusations of:
Police and prosecutors use various tactics to pressure individuals into surrendering their rights. That’s why contacting an experienced criminal defense attorney is so important. Regardless of the specific allegation, my firm is prepared to pursue the best possible outcome, whether that is an acquittal, dismissal or sentence reduction.
Changes to Colorado drug crime laws over the past several years have changed the way substance-related offenses are charged and punished. Possession charges involving amounts associated with personal use are now considered misdemeanors. Still, conviction for possession of a Schedule I or II drug could lead to incarceration for as many as 18 months. Moreover, if the authorities believe that there are indications of illegal distribution or manufacturing, you could face felony counts and possibly even federal charges. Regardless of the particular charge or substance, I will challenge evidence that was improperly obtained and advocate for an appropriate resolution.
There are two types of drunk-driving charges under state law: Driving under the influence (DUI) and Driving while ability impaired (DWAI). A motorist whose blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) is .08 percent or higher faces prosecution for DUI. If your BAC is between .05 and .08, you can be charged with DWAI. In all DUI/DWAI cases, I review the facts thoroughly and fight back if the allegations are based on overzealous police behavior or a problematic test.
